Hate

There is a word that has caused all of the upheaval in human society. This word is the foundation for the system of justice and laws that we hold dear. And this word is also the cause, directly or indirectly, of most of the greatest innovations which humankind has wrought upon this earth. This word, while being so important to so many people, is a short word, of only four letters, and a very common one at that. This word is hate.
Hate has caused some of the greatest developments in human society. The various weapons of destruction were all created in order to allow one man, who hated another, to act upon that hate. The wars that have been started were started because one group hated another, or one man hated another. On occasion a war was started by someone who did not hate those whom they went to war against. but on these occasions, it was caused by the fear, of someone who hated them, who might someday act on that hate. What have these wars caused? Death and destruction, pain and injustice, yes. But they also caused revelations, stunning achievements seen in rare few times outside them. The nuclear bomb, the airplane, and the satellite all owe their existence to one groups hate, or the fear of a some others that hate that group.
What is hatred? Some define hatred as simply wanting to harm a person, or a group. Almost everyone can agree on this, as, when they felt hate in the past, that is exactly what they desired to do. But why do we hate? In almost all cases, its a form of revenge. Not simply revenge against someone who has done something wrong to you. Revenge against someone who made you feel weaker than them, or who did something you didn't like for some reason. Revenge against the man who dares to not do things the way you do, or look the same way, feel the same way. Hate always has these components. A reason for the hatred, which in many cases is an illogical, unfounded reason, and a target, a person or group perceived as being at fault.
