Now and in the past women in general have been criticize by society, that it's become blind toward complimenting all they've overcome throughout history. The struggles woman had to go through Just for simple rights, such as to be able to vote, to work, and to Just have a say in this world. Examples of woman that had to struggle in the past for these rights were Rosa Parks, Harriet Tutmen and many more throughout history. To society a woman beauty is there physical and therefore they bypass the true beauty a woman has. There wisdom, strength, creativity and courage as shown in a story called "Mother Catherine" by Zora Neale Hurston and this essay "Yellow Woman and a Beauty of the Spirit" by Leslie Marmon Silko. These pieces of writing are all on our ordinary women but yet so distinctive to each other. .
Mother Catherine by Zora Neale Hurston is about a women strong religious belief, they were so strong that it was contagious. She had this sort of power over the people who were believers and those that were not, that they felt that they had to obey her immediately. It was also believed that she had special powers that perform miracles, that healed many people. She was the faith of her believers, she was worshiped by many. " She heals by the laying on of hands, by suggestion and copious doses of castor oil and Epsom salts. She heals in the tent and at great distances. She has blessed the water in the barrels for her followers, but she feels her divinity to such an extent that she blesses the water hydrants at homes of her followers without moving out of her tent." ( page 103.) Mother Catherine shows how she as a woman was creative by making her own worship place with a tent. How she had enough courage to show the world what she believed in not worrying about whether people would believe in her faith, she took that chance. .
As for Yellow Woman and a Beauty of the Spirit by Leslie Marmon Silko is about the Native American life on How they thought was the correct way of living life, such as the way the world is lived today.
