Even with Athena's help, it took a large amount of courage to speak to a king and control his emotions. Nearing the time of his departure, Telemachos meets Theoclymenos, a murderer and soothsayer. Telemachos makes the decision to carry him along. This choice took a lot of maturity and wisdom to make. Telemachos mad a wise decision. Next, Telemachos travels to Menelaeos's kingdom to see if he can find any information about his father. Telemachos is finally getting used to talking to adults and receives a huge compliment from the king. "My friend, you speak like a man of sense, you are older than your years; your father is just the same, you get it from him." Telemachos has just been told that he is a mature adult and acts older than his age. He has worked up the courage to go and speak to this man and gets comfortable enough with speaking to the king that Menelaeos actually views him as an adult. Athena has guided him this far and Telemachos has just taken it to the next level. Menelaeos tells Telemachos that Calypso is holding Odysseuse captive on her island. Telemachos earned this information by staying calm and keeping his emotions in order. He also makes a wise decision nearing the end of his stay at the palace.
