Sex education

Why should sex education be taught to children? Sexuality can be seen as a part of society. The presence of sexuality in media such as, movies, news, magazines, or television program has shown the reality of sexuality that exists in normal life style. Some groups of people would refuse or feel uncomfortable to talk about sex education especially, parents, church, and teachers. Most of them are concerned that once children learn sexuality education they will try to do it. According to Klein, (1989) sex education is hiding in the public place and people are afraid of talking about it. Maybe this is correct, but I do not agree, because obviously sexuality belongs in society, and it is important for children to learn. Sexuality is normal and children will learn one way or another even though they might not learn it in school. It is better for young people to learn the appropriate ways at school rather than learn from their peers, or media. The fact has revealed young people from Asian countries are inclined to keep their virginity until they get married, but for the others countries are likely to have sex in early ages. According to (Klein, 1989, p.58) "the norms about virginity are less oppressive, yet family and social messages also up hold them". This means, in New Zealand, young people see sexuality as normal and nothing wrong with it, thus young people deserve to learn their curiosities in the appropriate ways. I would suggest it is essential that children have sufficient knowledge about sex because the danger of engaging in unsafe sex and unawareness in the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of sexual relationships and activities will not result in a harmful outcome to the growth and development of an individual at an early, young age. (Too Long).

Family has an important role to teach children about sex education, but sometimes parents do not feel free to talk about it, but it is obvious that children will believe their parents more than someone else.
