Oedipus Rex

Oedipus Rex was a man that was fated to do all of his acts, but also his very behavior also helped determine his fate. Odedipus was a very stubborn person who had to figure everything out for him self. In doing so he creates a lot of his problems. Wanting to know who he really is, is something he also wants to find and also causes him to keep pursuing everything when he should really just leave everything alone.
The first thing that I thought after I read this was that Oedipus did what I think anyone would have done if they were in the same position. Just about everyone who doesn't know something wants to figure it out. The main theme of the story I believe is fate. I don't necessarily think that Oedipus was fated to do all of the things that he did, but I do believe that everything he did helped determine his fate. If he would have just chose to leave things alone he wouldn't have had all of the problems that he had. The type of person Oedipus was and the decisions he made are what determined his fate. I don't think that Oedipus had a lot of self control or he would have left things alone once he started to figure things and before they got too bad. All of his problems were because of what he did, but I think that some of the other characters could have helped prevent them also. Tiresias and his wife Jocasta tried to stop him. I think that if they went about it in a different way they might have been able to stop him from pursuing everything. As the reader the whole time your reading this you just want to smack him in the head and say "hello can't you see what you"re getting into." This story just makes you want to keep reading it to see what else he's going to do to cause him more problems. I think a lot of what he does and what he is gong thru a lot of people can relate to. Most people probably have done some things or kept going after things when they shouldn't have and had to pay the conciseness for them.
