If you want to start a very heated argument in a short period of time, just venture to bring up the topic of Abortion in a crowded room. Tempers are sure to flare in record breaking time. It is perhaps, one of the most talked about subjects of our time and is a topic that brings emotions to the surface on both sides of the issue. People both for and against abortion give strong arguments to state their opinions. Rarely a day goes by without media coverage of one side or the other. People who are in favor of abortion are called "pro-choice"; those who oppose abortion are referred to as "pro-life.".
After giving much thought to the subject, I have formed some very strong opinions of my own. While I admit that my opinions have been formed partially because of my upbringing and the influence of my church, I have not solely based my stand against abortion on the religious aspect of it.
I have heard first hand a lot of the reasons that people are in favor of abortion. Many of the people who claim to be "pro-choice" have a misunderstanding of what pro-choice really stands for. They believe that being pro-choice merely means that they are in favor of each woman deciding for herself whether she will or will not have a child. I have heard the comment many times, " I am not pro-abortion, I am pro-choice." Unfortunately, there is no middle ground. Every woman should have the right to choose to have or not to have a child. I feel that that choice should be made before a child is conceived. Once a child has been conceived the woman does have a child. The only option that abortion gives is to make her the mother of a dead baby.
There are very few people today who will argue that the fetus is not yet a child. It is referred to as a "mass of cells" many times by those who favor abortion. Have you ever heard an expectant mother who was looking forward to the birth of her child refer to her baby as a "mass of cells"? When .
