            Blindness is an issue that has been often discussed by writers and it has been portrayed in diverse ways in the literature. For example one of the principal themes in Shakespeare's play, King Lear is that of blindness. Normally blindness is defined by the dictionary as the lack of sight or the disability to see .however after reading king lear, blindness come to have a meaning at a different level. In this case blindness is seen as a mental condition instead a physical quality. Shakespeare express that it is a phicicollogical flaw that some characters own. Throughout the play there are several characters that exemplify this image of lack of sight. Lear, Gloucester and Albany prove that their unfortunate fates were caused by the not so wise decisions they made because of their blindness.
             In lear's case the blindess of them all, his lack of sight due to his stubborn and capricious character costs him suffering and the life of his loving daughter Cordelia. From the very beginig, lear is shown as a person who, ironically as king, is unable to distinguish among good and evil. He can not really see into other's personality. In act 1 secen 1, lear is fooled by his elder daughters who flattered him with the only purpose of obtain his land. Lear is unable to see their true intentions, which makes him give them his throne and judge unfairly Cordelia, because of her sincerity. His words to her let see how sightless he was against the only daughter who really appreciated him: for we have .After this kent tries to intercede on cordelia's behalf but he is also banished by lear. Kent was not the only one who tired to make him see his faults, though. The fool also made countlees efforts to show him how wrong he was. despite all this people around him that wanted him to understand what he has done, it is too late for him when he realizes that his own rashness. His initial blindness has already costs him a great suffering .
