Communication Breakdown

            
             Communication is the main form ideas and feelings can be expressed by a certain individual. By communicating with other individuals one can relate to other people and understand their emotions. Emotions are the main force that drives a person and dictates the way they will handle certain situations. Communication between genders is one of the most important types of communication. Many people believe that men speak in an asymmetrical fashion, which means they talk to people as if they are better than the other person. Women speak in a symmetrical fashion, which everyone they talk to is on the same level as them. These discrepancies between genders often cause problems in relationships. By analyzing the differences between asymmetrical and symmetrical communication one can understand how they affect relationships. .
             Language is often developed in the early years of childhood. The first words from an infants" mouth most likely are some incoherent garble. In males it is common misconception that they learn to walk before they can talk. Taking this in to play, maybe it is saying that to males language is not the most important factor in their lives. Most men demonstrate asymmetrical communication. This is the hierarchy based form of language. Which means that often men speak as of though they are superior to the other person they are speaking with. Competition is an overwhelming part in male nature. It enables males to feel better about them selves if they are better at something than someone else. "In this world conversations are negotiations in which people try to achieve and maintain the upper hand if they can, and protect themselves for others" attempts to put them down and push them around. Life, then, is a contest, a struggle to preserve independence and avoid failure" (Tannen 24). This describes male nature and the ultimate goal of preserving independence. Males either have the upper hand in a conversation where they are telling someone what is to be done.
