Along with the occurrence of new technology, society develops a new approach of doing things. The new approach to listening and buying music is downloading mp3's over the internet. Record companies are fighting against the concept of "music sharing". .
With millions of people downloading music, it is impossible to prevent such vast numbers of people from sharing files. People always find alternate sources to download music. For example the shutting down of Napster resulted in the creation of Kazaa and many other music search engines. File sharing can be compared to a virus that keeps spreading and cannot be stopped. .
Although music sharing can seems to be reducing the sales of CD's, most people that download music continue to purchase CD's. Yet why do record companies continue to complain about music sharing? The answer to this question is that record companies are using file sharing as a scapegoat for their loss in revenues. With the American economy at its lowest, how could record companies expect to prosper? In fact record companies themselves are responsible for the decrease in the sales of CD's. With the prices of CD's significantly increasing, why should people spend money just for 2 or 3 good songs? Maybe if the music industry and its labels paid a little more attention to their own customers, this whole controversy over file sharing would not have started in the first place. It's time they took some responsibility, rather than point the finger elsewhere. .

After some time the music industry will adjust to the new generation of music and therefore will begin to accept the fact that music sharing cannot, and should no be outlawed.
