Imagine this - you are sitting on the ground. You can't walk because of the abuse that you have endured by your captors. Two men come into your room. One is carrying a long, inflexible pipe which he proceeds to shove down your throat while the other man pumps food into it. Your neck is lacerated because of this rough treatment and some of your internal organs have ruptured because of the intense pressure. The day of your execution can not come soon enough for you because you will finally be out of your misery. Are you a Prisoner of War? Are your captors terrorists? No, you are a duck that will soon be served in a high class restaurant in New York. Foie Gras will be your title on the menu. Until then your title will be tortured prisoner. .
Should humans eat meat? Some would say yes. Some would say that we humans need the protein that animal meat provides. Some would say that animals are here for humans consumption. I would disagree with these people. Animals were here on this planet before humans and , I believe , will continue to be here long after humans are gone. How can we not respect them? Literature shows the majesty of animals. There has been a tremendous amount of research done that shows the cruelty and inhumanity that animals endure so that we can have meat on our tables. I haven't eaten meat in 5 years and I feel better than ever. This torture and killing is needless - vegetarianism is the diet that humans should follow. Literature shows it, research proves it , and I myself swear by it.
Literature shows how animals are our equals and should not be tortured , killed , or eaten by us. In "Snake" by D.H. Lawrence the narrator comes across a snake at his watering hole. The man sees the majesty in the animal and enjoys the time that he has with the snake. The man has, unfortunately, been taught by society that snakes are not to be revered, they are to be killed. Despite his being in awe of the snake , his upbringing gets the better of him and, as the snake is leaving, the man throws a stick at it.
