Currently, a number of the people of the United States have decided to misinterpret the constitution and remove all religious background from the state. The truth is, separation of church and state the way people perceive it today is in no ways found in the constitution. The first amendment was to keep the state from influencing the church, not the other way around. The history of our country was built off of religion. People came to America to get away from the persecution of a national church. These people wanted to ensure that there would never be a church of America, like the church of England.
Thomas Jefferson the same man who wrote this "separation of church and state" is the same man who, when charged with deciding the cirriculum for the school system included the Bible as required reading. The phrase "separation of church and state" is not in the constitution. It came from a letter written to church members in Connecticut that the government could not create an official country-wide religion. But when taken out of context look what happens, everything our nation was built off of is being destroyed. Prayer has been taken out of schools and "one nation under God ." is being debated, what will be next? .
In fact those men, who still go and preach at public schools or silently hand out Bibles, are amazing men. They believe in their God and are brave enough to take a stand. Breaking the law is the least of my concern, when it comes to denying Christ. What do these men hurt? They are not harassing or harmful, and everyone has the ability to same no thanks if they are not interested. "Separation of church and state" has been extremely misinterpreted and needs to be thought through again.
