One reason why Tibet still used polyandry style of marriage because the husbands can expect a more secure and higher standard of living. Another reason why there is so many fraternal polyandry marries is because it is so hard for a brother of the family to leave the household. For when he leaves he gets nothing or very little from the family. This makes it hard for him to start out on his own. So then, the brothers stay the household to lead an easier life then if he tries to start on his own. .
In the chapter of African polygyny, they discuss polygamy or marring more then once. The Islamic religion is best known for this. However, there different variation of polygyny. In Irigwe of Nigeria has two marriages the first one I the "primary marriage". The parents of the bride and groom arrange this marriage. Then there is a "second marriage" which is arranged by the couple. The western culture might find this unheard of but places like Uganda and Kenya find it socially acceptable. Even in some surveys that were taken, the women in these circumstances prefer that husband take another wife. Some she could share housework and childcare even have some companionship. It has been founded that women who have been or are in a polygyny marriage prefer it to monogamy. However, studies have shown that men favor monogamy or one marrying of one wife. They think one major disadvantage is economic one. Even thou polygynist men reported a higher quality work live then monogamous men. With the modernization of the ideas in East Africa women with Western education have been trying to get the word out that polygyny is unacceptable in this day and age. They have tried to urge churches to ban this concept of polygyny out their religion. In fact, today in Kenya professional women are rejecting the idea of any marriage. For they think that men are unsympathetic to their careers. They also believe in the independent lifestyles for themselves.
