Jack was a DJ and hosted a show called "potpourri" Dolores trusted Jack but the odd time, felt intimidated by him. When he drank he would come on to her, he kissed her and told her she was sexy. He then took her away and raped her. Dolores blamed herself for this incident and tried to mask her empty feeling inside with food. Dolores hesitated to tell her mother and grandmother about what Jack did to her, but told them anyway, her mother didn't press charges and Jack ran away and they never saw him after the incident. Dolores subconsciously tried to make herself unattractive so another person like Jack couldn't take advantage of her again. Dolores and her parents were quite close, but they always had their rough days when things just weren't working out. When Dolores's mother looses her child during pregnancy, their happy household falls apart. Mrs. Price goes to stay with her mother for a while after the death of her unborn baby boy and Dolores has time to bond and become closer with her father, after a few weeks of bonding, Dolores goes to visit her mother and her mother informs her that Dolores's father wants a divorce. Dolores feels abandoned by her father and resents him for making her love him so much and then leaving him. Dolores also fills the hole he left inside her with food, hoping the feeling of abandonment by her father would go away. When Dolores starts to get her life back together she meets Dante. When Dolores was in collage she knew Dante from his letters to his girlfriend, who happened to be Dolores's roommate, Dolores believed that she was in love with Dante although he had never heard of her. When Dolores meets Dante in person, she wanted to be with him, and got a date with him right after she met him. As time passed Dolores became pregnant, she feared telling Dante about the pregnancy and her past, for fear of losing him.
