Trials and Triumphs

Are you familiar with those times in your life when you feel like just giving up? You make yourself believe that it would be the easiest and most beneficial way out of it. No headache. No pain. No struggle. Of course you know what I am talking about. Everyone has experienced a time like this at least once in his or her lifetime. Personally, I have experienced it many times and have come out with my head held up high. This short autobiography tells about the trials and triumphs that have come into my life during my short seventeen years. Although I have not fully recovered from these trials, I hope that by sharing them, I will get closer to the point of recovery.
On May 3, 1986, Jon and Dawn Phillips were blessed with the birth of their second of four children. That would be me, Hollie Lynnette Phillips. Weighing in at 6 pounds and 8 ounces, I was my parents' pride and joy for the next few years. I was also the envy and jealousy of my two-year-old brother, Jon Randall Phillips, Jr. .
When I was in the first grade here at Tennessee Temple, my teacher was Mrs. Amy Griffin. One day in class we were listening to the morning Bible lesson, and she started talking about Heaven and Hell. To be completely honest, the part about Hell really scared me. I knew that I did not want to go to Hell, so when Mrs. Griffin asked us all to bow our heads, close our eyes, and raise our hands if we wanted to accept Christ, I raised my hand. Later that day, Mrs. Griffin talked to everyone who raised his or her hand, and I chose to accept Christ as my personal Savior. Aside from accepting Christ, this is also the year that I met my best friend, Zandra Landess. Through my next few struggles she was right there with me. Also, this is the year that my parents had my little brother, Jordon Alexander Phillips. I successfully lived the "Christian Life- up until fourth grade.
In fourth grade, my father was incarcerated.
