Similar to my hometown, Evanston is located in a suburban area close to a major metropolis. Both suburbs draw from the essence of great cities, which allows me to sample the best of both calm, cozy suburban and busy, complicated urban environments. Lake Michigan borders Northwestern University, just as the Pacific Ocean hugs the coastline of my hometown. The medium-size Northwestern is located in the perfect environment for serious academic work. It is distant enough for tranquility and concentration, yet close enough to all the excitement of Chicago. The similarities between Evanston and my hometown help create a familiar environment, which will ease my transition from high school to college. I have been looking for a prestigious school with the right mix of conservatism, tradition, and room for creativity. Northwestern is that university. Something at Northwestern that I consider special and beneficial to me is the relationship between students and faculty and the active collaboration among the students. I would really like to be part of a close community of teachers and students. I am looking forward to an intense academic environment since I have experienced the laid back learning environment in California. The ratio of students to faculty in the classroom is exactly what I need to unleash my potentials. Like my high school, Northwestern is well rounded with both academic and athletic excellence. I've enjoyed playing competitive varsity golf during my high school years and would like to continue in college with the Wildcat mascot on my bag. My father, a Northwestern graduate, proudly shared with me his wonderful experiences at Northwestern while I was still a young child. Since then, Northwestern has been my top choice for pursuing my college education. I hope to become a second generation Wildcat in my family.
