The Divine Wind

introduction- In the novel "The Devine wind", author Gary Disher explores many different types of relationships between the characters during the story. Relationships are between people. They may be based on love but love is not a relationship it is an emotion. The relationship explored in the book are consisted of love, family, friendship, hate and the relationship between the different cultures of people.
One relationship that was revealed in the novel is love.Within the book, some of the characters expressedlove with another character. Each character that experiencd this relationship had a different way of living with it. Hart's father Micheal and his mother Ida had relationships of love but found it hard to express it with one another.
In the book, Micheal Penrose felt like he couldn't connect with Ida and that he didn't know how to show his love towards her. They lived this relationship by not revealing each others true feelings, but had a quiet relationship of love where they loved each other, but never expressed it.Other characters such as Hart and Mitsy did finally express theirfor each other, but had a relationship of ups and downs. This was mostly caused from the fact that Mitsy wasn't really as interested in love as Hart was for her and they ha different views on things.
This view on the world was also shown in the relationship that Alice had with Carl Venning.
Carls view on Aboriginals was prejudice and Alice didn't think the same which led to the end of their love.
Another relationship which was expressed in the novel is the relationship between families. This was shown within the Penrose, Kilian and the Senosuke families. The family relationship in the Penrose family was viewed on love, care and trust. The relationship that Ida and Micheal Penrose shared with their children Hart and Alice showed us that they were a normal loving family.
Alice and Hart shared a special relationship where they really cared about each other.
