Teen Suicide

In Los Angeles, three hundred to four hundred teens are estimated to become victims in this suicide terror that lives in our society today ("Teenage" 1). These numbers indicate that one teen will commit suicide almost every day this year.
The exact reasoning and cause for suicide is impossible to discover, but some logical reasons were found and proven to be true. Some teens who know they are suicidal seek counseling or therapy. Between 60% and 80% of suicidal teens looked for help within the previous months of the successful suicide ("Youth" 3). This statistic proves that not all threats teens make about committing suicide are taken literally and are simply disregarded and ignored. Some teens that have stressful, difficult lives may see suicide as a solution. They see suicide as a way to eliminate their problems. It is very sad that some teens feel so horrible about themselves or their lives that they feel they need to kill themselves to make things better.
Depression and other mental illnesses have been proven to be some factors that alter suicide. Depressed teens, especially females, have a much higher risk of attempting suicide ("Youth" 4). Teens that possess other psychiatric disorders or illnesses, such as schizophrenia, anorexia nervosa, and major cases of depression, also have an increased risk of becoming part of the teen suicide statistics ("Youth" 4). Some risk factors that are related to suicide that should be noted are as follows: recent bereavement, failures, over-achievers, or chronic illnesses ("Youth" 4). Out of all teens that are successful at their attempts at committing suicide, 90% of them had at least one active psychiatric disorder or illness at the time of the suicide ("Teenage" 1).
There are many ways a teen could go about committing suicide. Using a firearm, such as a gun, is the number one way youths aged ten to twenty-four choose to carry out their death ("Teenage" 2).
