Russia's Mob

When reading this article on the Russian mob and all of the problems it is causing in their country, I was reminded of documentaries I have seen and papers I have read on the mob that used to run our own country, and still may to some degree. When our country was just getting to the point of being very industrial and capitalistic the mob played and important role, much as the mobsters of Russia do today. They were the protectors and punishers of the people in their area.
The government was harsh, as it is in Russia, and imposed too many taxes just to get things started as a business. Today we encourage and even give money to people to start-up businesses. In this way we took the power away from the organized crime syndicate and put it back into the hands of the people. The author of this article stated that businessmen would pay two thousand dollars for operated rights to the mob, and opposed to the twelve thousand dollars the government would force them to pay. Of course people are going to take eight thousand dollars and put it in their pocket.
Dempsey and Lukas said that many of the criminal class of today are former government officials. Whit such connections, people who were former politicians, provide an incredible way for the mob to have instant feedback for anything they wish. Just slip a little money on the side to an elected official, and any problem they have is solved.
The uprising of organized crime in Russia came for the old government, Communism. It created underground markets because of the shortages provided by the government's contributions. The people, who were in charge of housing, goods, services, and almost everything else, became powerful and could charge extra fees for their own purposes, because you could not go anywhere else to get these items or services.
The solution to Russia's organized crime problem is simple; they all just need to relax a bit.
