God the Father

In the Old Testament book of Genesis, God is portrayed as a father to the humans he creates. God provides everything the humans need, and he provides them with some things they want also. He spends time with all of his children. He shows mercy on them when they are both good and bad. God loves the humans like a father loves his own children.
Like any good father, God is a provider to his children in the book of Genesis. God provides for Adam and Eve. Moses writes, "[T]he Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food" (52). God creates everything that Adam needs. God even provides Adam with a wife when he sees that he has no compatible helper. God provides a ram for Abraham to sacrifice after he sees that Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac, his son. God gives Noah the idea and the means to make a boat big enough for his family and all of the animals during the flood. Rebekah is blessed with twins, Jacob and Esau, after Isaac prays for her. Most fathers would like to give their children everything that they want, but sometimes they cannot. God, the heavenly father, because of all his power, can give humans everything they desire. Through his love he provides them with many of their wants and all of their needs.
God is a loving father because he wants to spend time with the humans he created. When a father brings his little child a doll or stuffed animal, he will always ask them what they will name it. God does the same thing with Adam. "[T]he Lord God formed every beast of the field [.] and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them"(53). God comes to Adam to spend time with him. He lets Adam name his animals. God also wanted his creation to be perfect like him. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (52).
