Ben Franklins American Dream

I feel that Ben Franklin's American Dream is still a possibility today. The dream he portrayed is still a reality to many Americans. Although more and more obstacles arise every day, the opportunities that existed then, exist now. .
Everyone's ancestors started out in the same position. Many were just poor merchants in England working under the king's supervision. Most of them had the same idea of escaping to the "Land of Opportunity", which is America, so they could better themselves. .
The first thing mentioned in Franklin's autobiography is mobility. I feel that Franklin was correct in thinking that the first process in building a solid foundation for a better life, is to take on a journey. A person must figure out the journey they want to take in life before they can do anything. Once they have declared a journey they must decide what they want to do on their journey. Franklin decided to get an education. However, he was unable to get a formal education. In today's world if you want to move up in life you have to have a solid education. Despite the fact that Franklin did not have a formal education he still taught himself how to achieve goals with a self-made education. Although few children are home-schooled today, the direction that parents take in educating their children grows more diverse every day. Some people might look at home-schooled children as if they are less educated or that their education is not a formal one. However, home schooling is a formal teaching method, and is becoming more and more popular with each new school year. .
Virtue is the next method reached in the American Dream. The puritans believed that virtue is brought to a person who lived rightly and thought rightly, but Franklin believes it is because of good morals and their willingness to try, as do I. If a person has good morals and is willing to try than they are more apt to succeed in life.
