American Dream

To live in happiness, having the dream job and the perfect family is the "American Dream." Many People have accomplished it and many have failed trying. In John Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men, he shows many characters failing to reach their "American Dream." For George and Lennie, in Of Mice and Men, their "American Dream" never came true; however Esme accomplished hers and I am striving for mine.
George and Lennie's actions lead them to their failure of reaching their Dream. For instance when George said, "I think I known from the very first. I think I known we"d never do her . . . "(94). George never had any hope for their dream. For not having any hope, he never really tried to reach it. On another occasion when the narrator stated, " . . . he shock her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck" (91). The death of Curley's wife meant that Lennie would have to pay the consequences. Her death also meant the death of their, George and Lennie's, dream. As a product of their activities they were unable to fulfill their "American Dream.".
In contrast to George and Lennie, Esme succeeded in making her dreams a reality. To illustrate this, she has a job as a paralegal, which is something she always wanted to do. She is continuing school to expand her dreams. Working hard in her career has brought her to where she is now. Reaching her goals has not stopped her from striving for higher ones. She wants to make her self the best. In addition to her dream job, she is happily married with a son and a stepson. Being happy with her family and enjoying everything and more shows that when a dream is reached it most likely brings happiness. Her family helps make her dream a reality. Her job and family show that, unlike George and Lennie, she has succeeded in making her dreams a reality.
However, for me, I have an opportunity to make my dreams happen. In fact I go to school and work hard to earn good grades.
