If a person was battling AIDS and they were getting worse, they knew eventually that they would die. Why wouldn't they end their life before all the suffering sets in?.
What if you are confined to a wheelchair, you can barley move your mouth and someone has to bathe you everyday? Someone has to put all your clothes on you, they have to feed you, they have to brush your teeth for you, they have to do everything that a physically healthy person could do on their own. Many people pro-euthanasia believe that a person should have the right to choose whether or not they go through all this suffering or just end their life. .
Any person who takes medication, or to live, needs surgery would have to pay a large amount of money to survive. Can we tell them that they need to pay for those? Can we say, "yes, you have to pay for those bills?" Even though you cannot bring yourself to commit suicide?.
Some people may be severely depressed over a long period of time. To them, suicide or physician assisted killing may be a permanent solution to a temporary problem, which they just don't see as temporary. Why should we make them live their life when all it has done is caused them pain and suffering in everyday of their lives? Why do we have the right to make that sort of decision for them?.
Many people may look at this situation in a totally different manner. I had the pleasure of talking with Mrs. Phaneuf. She told me a very interesting story. She is burdened with the disease of multiple sclerosis. She went through a period of her life, in which she was confined to a wheel chair and could not dress, feed, bathe or do anything for her self. Thoughts of suicide crossed her mind, but she is not the type of woman who could take her own life. Now she is a healthy woman who can walk superbly and only rarely has weak spells. What if she had a physician assisted killing? She would not be living the wonderful life she is living today.
