Fall of The Roman Empire

There are several different reasons to explain the fall of the Roman Empire. The first reason being the wide spread of Christianity; a faith that promoted the idea of a society being run by spiritual leaders as opposed to military leaders, which was the original infrastructure of the Roman Empire. The second reason for the fall of Rome was the loss of one tenth of the population due to lead poisoning, and the plague. And the third reason being the economic collapse Rome suffered.
The Christian faith, once introduced, became very appealing to the people of the Roman Empire. The promise of salvation was introduced to the public through Christianity. This was attracting to the people at the time because they were living difficult lives and carrying on in a very unjust manner. Christianity gave them faith and something to work forward to. Christianity also provided the people with a meaning towards life, and showed them that there was more to value other than material objects. The people of the Roman Empire were able to accept Christianity for several different reasons; the God it provided for them was a common man, unlike the Gods and Goddess they were acquainted with, the faith was open to both men and women, the faith was also more accessible to common people in that it required no large amount of money or sacrifice. Due to all these alluring aspects of Christianity, it was only a matter of time that the people would look to their priests for advice and leadership as opposed to the military leaders that once ran their lives. .
After undergoing a series of invasions, Rome was cursed by a plague that was likely to have been brought back from the East. This had a huge impact on Rome in that it provided a loss of approximately one tenth of its population. In addition to the plague there was a huge case of lead poisoning that spread through water pipes and cups. The poisoning resulted in offspring who were likely to be underachievers and also created a high infant mortality rate.
