Friendship

Friendship begins when we put ourselves in a situation to help someone else. With the events in the United States in the past two weeks, friendship and its importance has proven to be a binding factor in all that has happened since our great tragedy. Americans have reached out and helped one another, they have donated food, time, and lots of money to help and aid all of the victims of this horrendous act. Americans have given countless numbers of encouraging words, many hours of volunteer work carrying buckets of rubble away from ground zero in the hopes that one more friend will be saved, but most of all Americans as friends have offered prayers for all who need help; along with the belief that the human spirit will overcome this disaster. Americans have helped without knowing whom their actually helping but they still make gestures of friendship and love all because we want to help someone; just as Huck found himself when he ran cross Jim and found that he had been sold by Miss Watson; but, he has ran away instead. At this point Huck must make a decision in which he knows he could find himself in a lot of trouble for aiding Jim in his escape.
Some of the best friendships evolve out of the unlikeliest if situations; ones in which the people in the relationship come from totally different backgrounds but still form a mutual acceptance, commitment, and loyalty to each other, and usually have the same interests and personal enjoyments. Huck and Jim initially don't find themselves best of friends, Huck initially finds himself struggling with the acceptance, commitment, and loyalty because he is white and, Jim is a black runaway slave, who finds himself doing as this little twelve year old white boy tells him. The two do have the same interests in which they both want to run away for one reason or another, Huck needs to run because he has faked his own death and now must really not be heard from again; Jim, on the other hand ran away from his owner Miss Watson after he found out that he had been sold to New Orleans and was to be taken away from his family.
