Two new religious movements have made large impacts on society; these are the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Unification Church (Moonies). First Jehovah's Witnesses, they see a new world in which all people, including many raised from the dead, will join hands in peace. (Fisher 437) The earth will become paradise and those saved will live here except the 144,000 that will live in heaven with God. (Fisher 437) Jehovah's Witnesses are monotheistic because they believe in one God. Their belief of God is " He that causes to become." God created the earth to be inhabited by righteous perfect beings. (www.watchtower) Their ultimate reality is based on some of these believes: Jesus is not God; he is God's son and inferior to him. The Holy Sprit is a force and not of a person. This really means they do not believe in the Trinity. They do believe that the bible is God's word and is reliable but feel hell is overrated. In addition, they not believe in Christ's physical resurrection. They feel his presence already exists. (www.watchtower) .
The second new religious movement having an impact on society is the Moonies. The entire religion is built around one person, the founder Sun Myung Moon. According to Moon, Jesus appeared and told him God did not want him to die on the cross because his mission was left unfinished. Moon said Jesus asked him to complete the task of building God's kingdom on earth. (Fisher 438) Because Moonies believe in one God, they can be classified as a monotheistic religion but it is their understanding of ultimate reality that is different from Jehovah's Witnesses. The Unification Church warns Christians that they will be swept away. Reverend Sun Myung Moon claims he is the new Messiah and Korea is God's chosen nation. God reveals the truth to Moon. (www.pericel) Additionally so, they believe Jesus was no different from any other mortal man, except for the original sin.
