Native American Literature

Because little history was recorded, Cochise cannot see back very far into his roots. He has little knowledge of how his people arrived in America, yet he appreciates the land as a blessing. Though the tribes in America grew very prosperously, they kept the environment sacred and became one with the land and the wildlife. .
Europeans had a much easier and stable few thousand years of cultural evolution. Instead of wandering in search of food, their ancestors stayed living comfortably in their hemisphere. As population rose, land became scarce and territories were fought over. Resulting from the competition, boundaries were set, and governments were made to control all who lived is the region. The competition also forced nations to develop new technology in order to compete in wars, trading, communication, transportation, and production of goods. When a baron continent was discovered over the Atlantic Ocean, Europeans flocked there for the opportunity to settle new territory. They brought with them brand new western technology as well as their competitive culture. .
The competitive edge that the colonists had could account for the way whites overcame the Native Americans. Europeans came from a more developed culture where money and power were required to prosper. American Indians lived in harmony with the land, and had no need to become more advanced than they already were. Though the red-man had no strict form of government, they were far from anarchy. It is safe to say that the white-man were more culturally evolved than the Native Americans. Social Darwinism thus caused the more evolved society to prevail. The whites took full advantage of the compassionate nature of the natives. They stole from them, taxed them, and relocated them to less desirable parts of the country with no remorse. Since the red-man were so accustomed to living in peace, they provided little resistance the ambitious wrath of the white-man.
