It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. A picture is a moment in time captured forever. In life there is only one thing that will last, memories. A picture allows you to always have a means of remembering the good times and the bad times. Looking at an old wedding album with your wife or husband of fifty years can bring laughter and smiles to a couple's face. Looking at the picture of your child when they were born or their first kindergarten picture or their high school graduation picture fills a parent with pride. A picture is a link for generations that never meet. A picture also makes statement that changes a society. The picture of little kids being attacked by dogs during the Civil Rights Movement showed how vicious a society could be. The picture of Martin Luther King Jr. lying on the hotel balcony lifeless with Rev. Albernathy, Rev. Jackson, and company pointing toward the direction of the fatal shot, that killed a leader, rocked a nation. The picture of John Jr. saluting his fathers casket as it passed brings tears to the generation that was led by John Kennedy. Pictures allow us to remember the past while living the present. Pictures also allow us to appreciate our surroundings. Nature is one of the most beautiful scenes in the world. Most people that live in the city crave nature through the pictures. A picture truly allows one to appreciate the leaves as they have just turned in fall or the first blooming rose of spring or the first snowflake falling on the frozen winter ground. The images let us appreciate and long for the season that just passed or has yet to come. A thousand words might not be enough to describe images that can evoke every emotion a human being can possibly feel.
