Psychiatry

Other abilities which must be performed daily in this profession are: providing medical service to individuals, talking and interacting with patients, being in hospital environments, working with and managing small groups of people, and creating and initiating action plans to treat disturbed patients. These physicians must be able to deal with incoherent individuals, be patient, work with a team of subordinates, make sound, logical decisions in the absence of information, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (Durgin 2). These interests and abilities may not seem as significant now, but in the future they play an important role when choosing to become a psychiatrist.
People become psychiatrists for many reasons, some that are good reasons and some that are the wrong reasons to explore this profession. The fact that an M.D. has completed a program of education widely known to be rigorous adds to .
the admiration many feel for all types of physicians. Psychiatry is also an unusually safe profession to enter. Young doctors, unlike other professions, are still assured of relatively high incomes if they desire such financial rewards and stay dedicated to their work. The problem with using money, status, and security as goals is that they tend to be weak motivators. On the other hand, stronger motivations include the basic desire to serve, and seeing psychiatry as fulfilling to their intellectual curiosity. The less admired motivations for a career in psychiatry are often the weaker ones. It is also a known fact that medicine is changing, and some expectations for salary, independence, and psychiatrist-patient bonds, are becoming more difficult to realize ("Psychiatry" 3).
