Minority Report and Out Past

In that shallow perspective, yes, it is a wonderful thought. But if we dig deeper, we can find a whole world of problems that can arise from this. For example, if you catch a person before he or she commits murder, how can you arrest that person if they haven't committed a crime? Also, with these tracking devices, our personal freedom and privacy is lost, and the system can eventually be used by an ambitious government to control every aspect of our lives. Also, it abuses our basic human and constitutional rights, because along with this pre-crime comes unwarranted entry into a residence, and it does away with a trial by jury. Ironically, it seems that by trying to establish perfect justice for the masses, we are denying justice to the "perpetrators" of pre-murder. These are just some of the problems that arise from this sort of thing.
Philosophy and the desire for knowledge and technology are intertwined, but are all equally separate and important. Knowledge can be used for both good and evil. We can use it to cure disease and prolong life; we can use it to raise the comfort level and the standards of living; we can also use it to do things faster and easier then our ancestors. But when it is used the wrong way, there can be consequences. Knowledge is power, and when you have too much power, you will be corrupted, and take advantage of the weak. This is one way tyranny is established. When someone has too little knowledge, they are easily controlled, because they don't know that they are being exploited and have the ability to make a difference to change their society. This also hooks into technology, because with the more knowledge we have, the more technological advancements we are able to make. Now, technology is a wonderful thing, but when we get into the world of inserting bio-computer chips into a human being, or, in the case of Minority Report, the ability to foresee the future and track individuals whereabouts, the freedoms that we take for granted are lost, and devastating consequences can be expected.
