Sexual Violence

Drugs allow rapists to the victim. Sexual Violence states that rape has been used as a form of violence ever since the founding of Rome. Many armies used rape against the enemy to tear their culture, heritage, and ethnicity apart. Rape was used as a political form of torture (50). This political violence was allowed and even encouraged to the point where men became used to the fact that they could use women. These armies took it upon themselves to attack the weakest link in the enemy's life. They raped those whose only goal in life was to protect their children, not hurt anyone.
"Women are not always the victim"(Parrot 5). There are many men who are the victims of rape; although, not many of these rape cases are reported. Men are too proud to report a raping because of the fear of being looked upon as weak. That weakness could turn a reputation from good to bad in a second. It is understandable for women to be the victims because historically; they have been portrayed as the weaker sex, both physically and mentally. "Some male victims have some of the same personality characteristics as female victims. Low self esteem, wanting to be a member of a high status group, not feeling in control of the environment, and previous victimization may all be contributing factors to sexual assault"(Parrot 12). In 1995 over 32,000 males were raped, yet only a small number reported it. The statistics on male victims are much less because of the few amounts of men that actually report it. .
Every two minutes a women is raped. "Like an enemy territory during war, [women] are to be conquered"(Current 43). Lisa Jackson states that the reason she was raped was that she is a woman in a world where male violence against women is a fact of life. Society has learned to shun the victim and turn her into a nonperson. So, Jackson says, "instead there is interminable babble about the psychology of the perpetrators as opposed to the victim" (8).
