The Tragic Hero

Though Aeneas is called a coward, he has proven himself heroic. First of all, Aeneas exhibits amazing loyalty to his family. For instance, when he finally sees his family, he holds his father and holds his son's hand. Yet, later when his wife is missing, Aeneas "turns back alone into the city" seeking his wife. Aeneas can be seen on his "endless quest form door to door" for his wife. His search was eventually put to a halt when his wife's ghost appeared to tell him that she was dead and to go on. Thus, Aeneas would have not ceased his search, if the ghost had not appeared. .
The most important factor that classifies Aeneas as a true hero is the fact that he leads his people to a new home. While being a leader for his people, Aeneas has to also overcome his personal obstacles. He has to let go of his life in Troy, but Aeneas seems to have trouble doing so, as he is "weeping". Moreover, he cries, "I must give up the shores, the harbors that were my home". His nationalism to his country is also amazing. For example, he even claims that it would have been better if he died in Troy's soil. Thus, allowing him to not only lead the people, but be one with them too.
