Frankl sums up the meaning of life to be different for each person and that what matters is not the meaning in general but the specific meaning at any given moment in that persons life. I believe if everyone could live life in this aspect the more meaning our lives would have. This includes logical thinking. Which leads me to one of the imperatives of Logotherapy, "live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!" But for humans to do this they would have to think "outside the box." Are any of us willing to be flexible to do this? There may be a few that would do this but not many, so I think not.
I enjoyed all the reading assignments and have broadened my way of thinking and in that broadening I can not find one view that was the least reasonable to me. I was mostly impressed with Victor Frankl, but I can identify with all the views presented. .
The first is being that of Socrates. His view to "know thyself", as depicted in Plato's Apology he saw the possibility of learning what is really good, in contrast to accepting mere outward appearances. He sought to uncover the nature of virtue and to find a rule of life. He enjoyed creating confusion and thought by asking simple questions. I find myself asking those kind of questions to my friends and family and trying to be logical and encourage thoughts to fix problems. I believe this will sum up to "know thyself", "What we do belongs to what we are; and what we are is what becomes of us." .
The second view encountered is that of Henry David Thoreau's, Walden. He was concerned with the personal value of living in his own eyes. His concept of axiology, which is concerned with the importance applied to humans rather than things. Also, Thoreau spent years in developing his ideas of transcendentalism; makes people in tune with nature and helps to give meaning within them.
