Anti Virus Programs


             The spreading part of the virus is known as the infection phase. Viruses would not be that bad if all they did was copy themselves. Unfortunately, most viruses also have an attack phase where they do damage. Something will trigger the attack phase and then something will happen whether it be printing a little message on the screen or deleting all of your data. .
             As technology keeps improving virus creators are learning more and more. One thing they learned was to load the virus in the memory so the virus could keep running in the background as long as the computer remained on. Another thing they learned was the ability to infect the boot sector on floppy and hard disks. The boot sector is a small program that is the first part of the operating system that the computer loads. The boot sector contains a tiny program that tells the computer how to load the rest of the operating system. By putting the virus in the boot sector it is guaranteed to get executed. The virus can load itself into the memory immediately, and is able to run whenever the computer is on. Boot sector viruses can infect the boot sector of any floppy disk inserted in a machine.              Viruses start from people. First a person has to write the code for a virus, test it to make sure it runs properly, and then release the virus. There are a couple of reasons why a person might create a virus. The first reason someone might create a virus is just because they like to destruct things. The second reason someone might create a virus is because they like to see how far it may go. The third reason someone might create a virus is because they are a programmer and they found a security hole. Instead of telling someone about the security hole, they would rather show them the hole, by creating a virus.
             No computer should go without anti-virus protection.
