Around the World in Eighty Days is a very fascinating novel. This novel dealt with the quest of Phileas Fogg to travel around the world in eighty days. It is an adventure novel because it retells the adventure of Phileas Fogg and his companions around the world.
The theme of this novel is one of perseverance and determination. Mr. Phileas Fogg was a very determined man who always gave a great effort to anything he did. Mr. Fogg's determination led him to a compromise on a bet to circumnavigate the world. Throughout the novel, Mr. Fogg showed his perseverance and determination by finishing what he started and no matter how difficult the obstacle became he always gave his best effort and overcame the difficulty. One example of a difficult obstacle that Mr. Fogg overcame was when he and his companions decided to rescue the Parsee woman. They had to risk their lives and their freedom to rescue the poor woman, but Passepartout and Mr. Fogg were willing to do whatever was in their reach to free her from her human sacrifice.
Around the World in Eighty Days is introduced in Burlington Gardens, London during the year of 1872. The most important location in this novel is the Reform Club in London. Due to the fact that it is where Phileas Fogg plays card games and where he establishes the most important bet of his lifetime with his companions, it is the essential location for the development of the plot. The novel later develops into many other locations around the world including Bombay, Calcutta, Hong Kong, San Francisco, New York, the jungle of Bundelkan, and many other small cities. The plot of this novel develops over many locations because when Mr. Fogg casts a bet to circumnavigate the world, he traveled across many lands to accomplish his difficult task. The two most important locations in this novel are the Americas and the Indies. The Americas were important because it is where they got into a battle with the Sioux Indians and almost cost the men their lives.
