Artist Expression: Making Infrared Pictures

Taking infrared pictures is an fairly unfamiliar art form, even to numerous photographers. What is neat about it is that if you already have a camera, you only need a few more things. After that, the process is fairly simple as long as you are somewhat familiar with computers. .
The first thing you will need to do is obtain an infrared lens. These little beauties filter out light, detecting heat signatures instead of colors. They can be bought online through various camera equipment sites or at a local store such as the Kodak photo store in our local mall in Greenbrier. After you've done that, you"re ready to take your pictures. .
Find a specimen, preferably a live one, and get permission to take their picture. Being sure not to touch the infrared lens itself, line it up in front of your cameras lens. If your camera doesn't have the ability to screw the lens on or attach it somehow itself, tape around the edge of the lens. This will not only make light unable to screw up your shot, but it will also provide stability for the lens. Make sure not to cover it with tape or touch it with your fingers. After securing the infrared lens, take your picture. Your next step may vary depending on the type of camera you have.
If you have a standard camera, you can have the film developed at any place that develops photos. You will see lively colors such as red, blue, and orange where there would normally be shading or a glare of some sort. If you have a digital camera, you can have a little more fun with it. But you"ll need on more component. .
If you have a digital camera and a good imagining program such as Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Prop, you can do neat things to your newly taken image. Upload the picture onto your PC via USB, Serial, or disk. However your camera manual tells you to do so. Open your imaging program and use it to access or open your image. There will be a little window on the bottom left that shows the different layers of colors.
