Urban

            Alienation in urban cities is the breakdown of a sense of community. People's sense of feeling that they connect with people, be able to trust one another or that they belong is diminished. This could be for a number of reasons. The incident involving Kitty and her neighbors could be an example of fear and personal experiences. The neighbors chose not help because of fear. They may have fear that if they got involve they would get hurt also or become a future target for the criminal. Others may not have wanted to take the time to call the police or protect her they were being selfish. A lot, of times people feel its none of their business to get involve simply because it does not concern them. That is because they do not feel sympathy or a human connection with strangers. Kitty's neighbors had an impersonal relationship with her. These relationships are very common in urban cities. What they had together was either temporary or false. When they were together the conversation was strictly basic courtesy or for personal gain. There was no common ground were they would meet and become connected. Which would cause them to feel for her as a human being. In some ways she was still a stranger to them. In the end it showed that they were still alienated from each other. When people's ideas, feelings or physical is threatened they begin to alienate themselves from people.
