Bust Magazine

Another reason I think this is done is to be able to have the magazine be stocked in well-known bookstore chains across the country. It is easier to have these somewhat radical ideas and writings in mainstream stores all across America if rather famous people are on the cover. .
The layout of the magazine is 112 pages per issue. Freelance writers do most of the feature articles for BUST. The binding is glued and the paper used is rather thin. There are all full color pictures used throughout the magazine, which are low gloss. I think that the ideas once again are what are important in BUST, not artistic layout and that is a reason why they have chosen to use thinner paper. Another reason is because BUST is a rather new magazine with few subscribers and monetary resources.
The advertising for BUST is quite unlike most magazines. Companies that advertise in BUST are mainly independent. There are no corporate companies such as Coca-Cola, car manufacturers or alcohol companies. There are no ads sponsored by big tobacco companies. Musical artists ads featured are mostly all on independent labels. There are no ads offering weight loss programs or how to increase your bust size. There are many ads in BUST though offering to better your sex life, either with your partner or by yourself. In the Fall 2002 Sex issue many of the ads are from companies that sell sex toys and offer other sex related merchandise. There are few ads with actual models in them. Models appearing in BUST advertisements do not resemble the typical fashion magazine model. In BUST they look like the average girl on the street. There are few advertisements in the middle section of the magazine, which shows its commitment to the writing and ideas presented in their pages and not with the hope of large profits from sponsors. .
Although BUST can be considered a feminist writing, it is definitely on the more liberal and light side of the fence.
