Colon Cancer

            
             Colon cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer patients. Once colon cancer has been spotted in the body a number of tests are run to make sure that the cancer is either benign or malignant.
             If the cancer is benign the tumor is just simply removed ,but if it is malignant more treatment is required. The process in which determining if the cancer is benign or if it is indeed malignant is called "staging".
             There are numerous different stages of tumors: Stage 0 is where the cancer is just found in the innermost lining of the colon. The medical term for stage 0 colon cancer is "Carcinoma in Situ". Stage I is where the cancer has been found spreading throughout the second and third layers. Most of the time stage I colon cancer involves the inside wall of the colon. Stage I colon cancer is called Dukes" A colon cancer. Stage II Colon cancer is where the cancer has spread out-side the colon and has gotten in to some nearby tissue. In stage II colon cancer, the cancer has not got in to the lymph nodes. Stage II is often called Dukes" B colon cancer. Stage II is serious because the lymph nodes are about to get involved with the cancer.
             The lymph nodes contain a special fluid called lymph which helps your body fight off disease and other infections. Cancer is where the cell's membrane is taken over by other unnatural cells and the healthy cells begin to die. Once the cancer gets into your lymph nodes your body can not fight off infection like it could before thus you are weakened and you have a very high chance of getting sick so you have a higher chance of dieing sooner. .
             Stage III colon cancer is where the cancer has gone so far to spread to the lymph nodes near the colon but it has not spread through the body yet. Stage III is where the body's immune system starts to break down due to the cancer the lymph nodes. Stage III is called Dukes" C colon cancer.
             Stage IV is the point of no return.
