Cold War Accusations

Journal: If you had to live in this time and were accused of being communist, what would you do?.

America was at war with another world super power. Life must have been very rough during this time for the common civilian living in the United States. Anyone who was Russian or had communist viewpoints that were living in the U.S. was probably shunned and looked down upon. Our country learned to hate the communists. If I happened to be living in the U.S. at the time of the war and was accused of being communist I would be very scared for my life. I am sure that many people would use acts of violence against anyone who praised the communist way. I would probably go and hide and get myself a low profile so that no one even noticed me. I would want to get rid of these accusations so that no one would want to do anything bad against me. Being called communist was probably a very hateful and serious thing during the time of the war. Not many people would feel sorry for you if you were labeled a communist and something happened to you. People would probably just brush any bad thing that happened to you aside as if they didn't even notice it happen. You would get no pity from anyone. Some of your rights as a citizen would probably be tried by other people by not allowing you basic rights. I would definitely not want to be accused of being communist during the time of the cold war.
