A further movement in the evolution of the events industry is that of fundraising, we are all too familiar with small charity events that take place in our everyday lives, such as prize draws, raffles etc. These have predominately been low key affairs. However in recent times these too have expanded and grown immensely enabling them to take a large segment of the events market. The growth in the fundraising sector began around the mid 80s the most noticeable of these being "live aid". Since the inception of live aid and indeed band aid, there has been a continuous flow and growth of this type of fundraising. Charities and fundraisers alike saw a niche in the market and took full advantage of this. They realised that the public were more inclined to give their support and donations to a charity which was championed by big name famous people who were very much in the public eye at the time. Live aid set a president for such events as comic relief, children in need and sport aid, these have grown to become a part of our annual fundraising events. We can also think of the charity work done by members of the Royal family most of whom are patrons of a number of charities. Again the most noticeable of these would have been the work done by the late Diana Princess of Wales. Her patronage of charities such as land mines, red cross and AIDS made a huge impact on the way the general public viewed the plight of others less fortunate than themselves. .
Modern technology has also had a hand aiding the growth of fundraising. The internet has become as much a part of our daily lives as the telephone or indeed the television and radio, these still capture our awareness of fundraising events. However it is through the internet that we can take an active part in these events. We no longer have to leave our homes to donate money or pledge our support, we merely have to log on and key in our personal details.
