Museum Of Fine Arts

During my recent visit to the Museum of Fine Arts I was able to see many different arts on display. Some of the arts that were displayed were from ancient Greek and Roman times. One of the statues I saw was the Torso of Aphrodite. The statue was talked about during the classical style in our lectures. .
The Torso of Aphrodite was done in the classical Greek sculpture style. When a female statue is done in nude it is identified as Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The Greeks had stories to explain how gods or goddess were born. The story for the birth or Aphrodite was believed to be from Kronos cutting off his father's body parts. Then he tossed the parts into the sea. The immortal flesh eventually formed into a circle of white foam which created Aphrodite. Her name actually means foam born. Many of the Greek sculptures have not survived, so Roman copies were made to allow them to be studied. In this museum, the Aphrodite stands with her weight on her right leg, with the left leg slightly bent. It wears a drapery that does not cover the whole body. The statue was made of marble.
There were many different types of art work ranging from Gothic paintings to Japanese Art. There were many paintings and sculptures to view. Some were from European art and from American art styles. There was also a music area or concert hall where different artist come to perform. There were tours to help explain all of the different art works that were displayed. The museum also had a shop in which visitors were able to buy different souvenirs. There were different galleries where different exhibits were held. One exhibit was called the West meets the East. The exhibit had many items from Asian eighteenth century thru the twentieth century. Other parts had Islamic forms of art too. The museum had many other exhibits going on that were very detailed and a good experience. .
The visit to the Museum of Fine Arts was very educational.
