Abraham Lincoln


            Lincoln, in his life accomplished a lot of things that many may only dream about, and a few actually live out. Abraham Lincoln's brother Thomas died in infancy. Later his mother died, and his father remarried. But Lincoln kept going on. Lincoln was elected captain of a volunteer company, in Black Hawk War. Lincoln was proving to be a good leader, which later led him to victory. Later in Illinois, Lincoln ran unsuccessfully for the Illinois legislature. Two years later Lincoln was elected the Lower House for the first four successive terms as a Whig. Abraham Lincoln dealt with a many hardships and political obstacles, but Lincoln was rewarded when he was elected sixteenth President of the nation. .
             Lincoln's family originated in Massachusetts and later moved to Kentucky. His father's name was Thomas and his mother's name was Nancy. Lincoln had one sister named Sarah. As a child Lincoln never really had a true home. The Lincolns were always moving from state to state because of government issues. The government would challenge Thomas on his land titles, where every time the government would sell his property and the Lincolns were forced to move. Lincoln never had any formal education growing up. The teachers were often barely more educated then their pupil themselves (Johnson 15). Lincoln's mom is the one who encouraged Lincoln to continue learning on his own (Johnson). Lincoln began to read books on his own and the biography of George Washington made a lasting impression on his life. Lincoln took the ideals of Washington a made them his own (Johnson). Because Lincoln took the initiative to learn on his own, he became a very smart man. .
             Lincoln's political career started in the spring of 1832, when he decided to run for a seat in the House of Representatives in the state of Illinois (Johnson). Lincoln had the ability to do well in politics; therefore everyone thought that he had made a good choice in running.
