International Terrorism: and Its Importance to Me.
In the wake of the terrorist activities of the last couple years, I have realized that as an American, I am not as safe as those who came before me, or as safe as those felt who came before me. Now knowing that neither my government nor I can ensure that other Americans will not be taken hostage by an extremist organization or murdered in the name of an extreme cause leaves me unsteady at times. Realizing that the United States is not the isolated power it had once been can send shivers down the spine of the most passionate American Joe.

Being part of only the second generation that experienced acts of terrorism by a foreign nation on American soil had me nervous at first. Knowing that now I will be the legal age of 18 soon, and eligible for the military draft, once had me fearful. We all had that American ignorance, the thoughts that everything happened over there. We turned out backs to the thought that some people just do not like America, and that they could never get to us. It is true, ignorance is bliss. Even in history, while there were wars going on all over the world, the United States experienced some of its most productive and fertile times. Well that ignorance was quickly corrected after the terror attacks of last year. When that thought was plucked from out psyche, we saw parts of ourselves that we never wanted to see. We saw that we could not just let everyone into our great country. We also realized that our previous ignorance had affected even our most advanced defense agencies. That is the feeling that worries me now. That feeling of knowing that in the greatest country in the world, a world super power, I will not even be able to guarantee my family's safety. That total lack of control, and total awareness to the dangers now facing us why this subject is important to me.
With the new advances in technology, the world has become astonishingly small.
