Langston Hughes


            A man of great poetry once lived a long time ago. His great words inspired many people. The poet had strong talent when it comes to writing poems. Reading his poems to myself, I felt his words settling into my brain and it made me curious. My thoughts made me very interested in knowing more about him. I frequently, wondered many thing such s who was he? When was he born? What inspired him to write poems? When was his first poems published? What did his poems mean and how did his poems affect his life? I have a lot of question, but by researching n reading his poems I have learned them all.
             My inspiring poet's name is Langston Hughes. He was born in Joplin, Missouri in 1902. Langston's parent parted after he was born. His father went way to become a lawyer, while his mother struggled as she herself attended college. Langston's mother moved very frequently, because she couldn't find a job. Growing ups a child Langston grew up with his grandmother Mary Leary Langston. Mary Langston always inspired Langston to read books there on he fell for poetry. In 1910, when Langston was the age of eight, his grandmother died leaving him no one but good friends of the family who he would live with for the next six years. In 1916, Langston lived with his mother and new stepfather in Cleveland. Langston attended Central High School in Cleveland where he started writing poems for school paper. He published his first poem. "The Negro Speaks of Rivers," in Crisis Magazine in 1921, and studied at Columbia University form 1921-1922. Hughes wrote many poems for a number of American magazines. One day while working as a busboy at a local restaurant Langston attracted the attention of a poet called Vachel Lindsay. He was stunned by Langston brilliant poetry. Langston greatest year was 1926 when he published his first poetry collection called " The Weary Blues." As time goes on, Langston traveled with many black writers to the Soviet Union.
