After passing a water tower with graffiti on it, he starts to flashback. This time it is about his ex-girlfriend Annie. "Crazy Annie loves Joe Buck."" The flashbacks of Annie give imminent to his love life.
He finally arrives in New York and checks into Claridge Hotel. When he gets into his room he decorates it with pictures of naked women. He gets ready to go out to hustle, but before he leaves he starts to flex in the mirror. After trying to find women on the street, he realizes that it's not what he made it out to be. The women are not into him as he thought they would be.
He encounters a woman named Cass. She is on a walk with her poodle outside her penthouse. He follows her upstairs and he makes moves on her when she is making a date with another customer. He is excited about having sex with what he believes is his first paying customer. When they are done, Joe tries to bring up business and tells her that he is kind of a hustler. She responds by saying that "A person's got to make a living."" She talks him out of money for a taxi so she can go on a date with her next guy. She is the one who gets paid.
Joe decides to hit up the bar. He starts talking to the guy next to him, Ratso. Joe is impressed with how street smart Ratso is. He continues to talk to Ricco about hustling and Ricco suggests that he needs a pimp. He states that he knows the perfect guy for him. After scamming Joe out of $20, Ratso leads him to a rundown hotel room. The guy is no way going to help Joe out with hustling, but more like help him with religion.
Joe runs out of the room and tries to find the conman, Ratso. That night he runs into a gay student and brings himself to have a sexual encounter. He finds out at the end that this student has no money.
The next morning he spots Ratso at a dirty diner.
