             There are many types of AI including intracervical, intrauterine, intrafollicular and intratubal, of which, intra uterine insemination (IUI) is the most common. This procedure is carried out by passing a sterile catheter containing the sperm, through the cervix and into the uterine cavity where sperm are injected directly into the uterus, enabling problems such as mild to moderate male factor infertility or hostile cervical mucus to be by passed. IUI is relatively uncomplicated and one of the least invasive fertility treatments, however, the average pregnancy rates per treatment cycle, when performed for the correct indications, is between 15-20%. If all other conditions affecting fertility are thought to be normal or adequately treated, then a reasonable length of treatment with IUI is about three to six treatment cycles.
