Organizational Burnout


            
             Increasingly, employees work in job settings in which human values place a .
            
             They are taking work home, often continuing after hours on computer .
             equipment they have purchased themselves. They are devoting more time to tasks that are .
             not personally rewarding, that is, that are not enjoyable and do not further their careers.
             Burnout is primarily a problem of those individuals. To avoid riding of those individuals, .
             organizations are seeking out strategies the deal with the workers/employees whom are .
             suffering from burnout. .
             The definition of burnout is sometimes misconstrued. What is burnout? Different .
             people use the term to mean different things. Some might consider exhaustion as .
             the central quality of burnout. When people describe themselves to others as .
             suffering from some sort of burnout, may times they mention the term burnout. It .
             is believed that exhaustion is a component/criterion of burnout, and exhaustion .
             reflects the stress dimension of burnout. Exhaustion is not something that is .
             experienced, but it promotes actions of distance emotionally from work as a way .
             to deal with work overload. The emotional demands of work can exhaust an .
             employee's capacity to be involved with, and responsive to, the needs of the .
             employer. Burnout can also occur when the employee performs essentially the same .
             routine and uninspiring work day after day for long periods of time. This kind of .
             repetitious, boring, and uninteresting work is associated with feelings of stagnation, .
             helplessness, and depression. Employees in this situation may experience problems at .
             work or bring the emotional problems to their homes. Lastly, burnout occurs when a .
             person works at the same job for many years and following a period of modest progress .
             or improvement settles into a very prolonged period where there appear to be no .
             additional avenues or opportunities for progress. There might have been a little progress .
             in the first couple of years, but the employee now feels that opportunities to move up the .
