Primary And Secondary Storage

When a computer boots up it reads from a memory source to get information. It scans it the memory source to find out what it has to do. The memory source that it reads from is typically the primary storage. There is a difference thought of primary storage and secondary storage. .
The memory source a computer boots from is usually the computer's hard drive. .
The hard drive is one place where the computer stores data and information. However, a hard drive can be both primary and secondary storage, depending on how it is configured. Primary storage is storage that the computer needs to run. It is where the system files are located, the dos, windows, or winnt folder in a Microsoft operating system. Secondary storage is extra space, for archives such as media files. Secondary storage is not a necessity for a system to operate, but more of a convenience. Now I said that a hard drive could be both primary and secondary storage. This can be done by partitioning it, or in other words, dividing it into multiple "drives". Typically, the primary storage would be the first partition, while secondary would be the other/s depending on how the user set the operating system up.
