            A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry.
             The setting of this book takes place in Chicago's Southside, sometime between World War II and the present. The main characters are Ruth Younger, Walter Lee Younger, Beneatha Younger, and Lena Younger. Lena Younger is the mother of Beneatha and Walter. Ruth Younger is Walter's wife. Walter wants to have a liquor shop and wants the money that Lena Younger is suppose to get that belonged to her husband. Beneatha needs money to become a doctor. Beneatha and Walter have external conflicts throughout the novel over the money. Lena Younger wishes to stop the fighting between Beneatha and Walter so once she receives the check, she goes out and buys a house for Walter's son, Travis. .
             Walter gets really upset when she spreads the news about the house that she buys. Lena has money left and she gives it all to Walter to share with Beneatha. Walter gives all the money to a friend for the liquor shop and his friend runs away with the money. Walter loses all the money and did not give Beneatha anything. When the family was about to move to the new house, a white man named Mr. Lindner offers them money so they wouldn"t move to that neighborhood. Walter tells Mr. Lindner that "What I am telling you is that we called you over here to tell you that we are very proud and that this is my son, who makes the sixth generation of our family in this country, and that we have all thought about your offer and we have decided to move into our house because my father earned it. We don't want to make no trouble for nobody or fight no causes but we will try to be good neighbors. That's all we got to say. We don't want your money." Walter decides to move into the house so the whole family moves to the neighborhood and the play ends. .
