Religion


            Religion plays a big factor in virginity. Keeping ones virginity may be influenced by their religion. Peoples religious beliefs have a large affect on whether they make the choice to practice abstinence, which is the act of doing without pleasure, especially for religious reasons. Most studies find that lower levels of sexual activity or delayed sexual activity are found to be with people that are more religious, not mattering age group or gender (Lammers n.p). In every religion loosing your virginity before marriage is a sin. However, all religions have different morals and ethnic standards. Who is to say that one may be better or one may be right or wrong? .
             Various theories have been advanced to explain the custom suggestions that is represented a sacrifice of virginity to the goddess of fertility; that it was a preparation for marriage, sparing the bridegroom the necessity of breaking the hymen (Cole176). Tradition for our society is for a woman to loose her virginity to her groom the night they wed. However, some people do not wait to loose their virginity and then have to deal with the consequences later. For example, the catholic church operates on the principle that who ever favors religion must avoid sexuality. The catholic religion believes in confession, therefore if someone has had sex before marriage they must confess this to the priest. Virginity is the ideal life style of the homo religious. The catholic church believes that "If one is incapable of being the ideal "Christ", unable to repress sexual needs, the marital state provides a way out (Savramis 57)." Moreover, sexuality equals sin, the only sex act that is permitted is marital sex. A person is looked at to be taint and spoiled for sexual activity before marriage.
             More and more people are maintaining their virginity, because they have a stronger connection with their faith. When a person is really active in their religion, they tend to follow the rules or laws which the religion gives them to obeyed by.
